Intro to MIG and Flux Core Welding

About the Course

Intro to Welding is offered with a different welding focus each semester:

Fall Semester – Stick Welding
Students receive hands-on training in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, commonly known as Stick Welding. Successful completion may qualify students for six credit hours required for: WDT 104 – SMAW Fillet/PAC/CAC

Spring Semester – MIG Welding
Students receive hands-on training in Gas Metal Arc Welding and Flux Core Arc Welding, commonly known as MIG and Flux Core Welding. Successful completion may qualify students for six credit hours required for: WDT 126 – Gas Metal Arc/Flux Core Arc Welding

Instruction includes:

• Welding safety
• Foundational welding principles
• Equipment setup and operation
• Proper welding techniques
• Hands-on skill development
• Preparation for continued training and entry-level welding positions

Admission Requirements
Participants must be at least 16 years of age to enroll. No high school diploma or GED is required.

Course Cost: $900

Upon successful completion, students will earn two NC3 certifications
• Welding Safety
• Principles of Welding

Students who successfully complete the course may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment credit toward Wallace State’s Welding Technology program.

Eligible students may receive academic credit for the corresponding welding course:

• Fall Stick Welding: WDT 104 – SMAW Fillet/PAC/CAC
• Spring MIG Welding: WDT 126 – Gas Metal Arc/Flux Core Arc Welding

Final PLA credit eligibility is determined according to Wallace State’s Prior Learning Assessment policies and Welding Technology program requirements.
