About the Program

Wallace State Community College is now offering a Forensic Psychology option through its General Studies program. Through an agreement with Athens State University, students can complete an associate degree or a short-term certificate at Wallace State and seamlessly transfer the course credits to Athens State.

forensic psychology

As a forensic psychologist, you would apply your knowledge of human behavior and thought processes in a variety of ways. You could determine a defendant’s mental competency, help to develop a suspect’s psychological profile, or assess a witness’s credibility.

With your certificate or associate degree, you can go to work as a classification officer, corrections officer, victim services shelter assistant, child advocacy center staff, or be hired at entry level counseling positions at mental health facilities.

Transfer to a four-year university and you can earn an advanced degree in forensic psychology, forensic social work, or a similar field to pursue a career as a victim advocate, court liaison, crime analyst, forensic case manager, probation officer, psychological assistant and/or investigative researcher.  As a forensic social worker, for example, you might meet with a child and later make recommendations in a custody case related to him or her, or you might help to evaluate and provide social services to criminal defendants.
