ACCUPLACER Placement Assessment

ACCUPLACER Placement Assessment

Wallace State uses ACCUPLACER to determine the appropriate English and math course placement. ACCUPLACER is not a graded test and does not appear on your transcript. The test is computer-based and untimed. Allow approximately 2 hours.

The assessment includes:

  • Next Generation Writing
  • Next Generation Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics

Location: 4th Floor Testing Lab, Bailey Building, Room 407

Testing is available Monday through Thursday, with select evening and Saturday appointments.

Click the blue Schedule an Appointment button above to view current available dates and times. If you need to test outside the available appointment times due to extenuating circumstances, contact Valerie Parris at valerie.parris@wallacestate.edu.

Walk-ins are accepted as space allows.

Oneonta Campus
ACCUPLACER testing is also available at the Oneonta Campus. Call 205-625-4020 to schedule an appointment.

 

Who Needs to Take ACCUPLACER?

You must have completed an application for admission before testing. You will need your A number to test.

You may be exempt from one or both sections based on your ACT score or high school GPA and coursework.

ACT Exemption

  • 17 in English and/or Math: placement into ENG 101/099 and/or MTH 100/099.
  • 18 or higher in English and/or Math: direct placement into ENG 101 and/or MTH 100.
  • ACT scores are valid for 5 years.

High School GPA Exemption:

If your ACT scores do not qualify, you may qualify based on a 2.75 or higher high school GPA:

  • C or higher in 12th Grade English and Algebra II: placement into ENG 101/099 and/or MTH 100/099.
  • B or higher in 12th Grade English and Algebra II: direct placement into ENG 101 and/or MTH 100.
  • GPA and course grades are valid for 5 years.

If you do not meet an exemption requirement, you must take the applicable ACCUPLACER section for placement.

What to Bring:

  • Photo ID, such as a driver's license
  • No calculator is needed. An approved calculator is available on the computer.

Prepare for the Test:

Free ACCUPLACER study materials are available through the Accuplacer.org, then use the Student Portal

Wallace State students can also access free Mometrix study materials through the Wallace State Library's online databases. Search for "ACCUPLACER." Log  in with your student email.

Results and Retesting:

Results are available immediately after testing.

You may retest as needed for a $10 fee per retest. Pay the fee to the cashier and bring your receipt to the Testing Center.

CLEP Information

  • Purchase a CLEP Test Ticket

    • You must purchase your CLEP Test Ticket from College Board before scheduling your test at the Wallace State Testing Center.
    • Visit College Board to purchase your ticket at collegeboard.org

  • Proctor Fee

    • A $25 proctor fee is required after purchasing your test ticket from College Board. You will be sent a link to pay this fee when you register for the test.

  • Proctor fee $57 – Paid at the Cashier’s office on the Mezzanine level of the Bailey Center- Be sure to specify that you are paying for the HESI placement exam.
