Information sessions planned for Wallace State programs

Hanceville, Ala. — Several Wallace State Community College health science programs will soon be hosting information sessions to provide details to those interested in learning more about the programs and the application process. Applications for Fall 2025 entry will be accepted starting in March. Upcoming information sessions will be held for Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technician, Nursing and Occupational Therapy Assistant.

WSCC Health Science Program Information Sessions

Jan.27 – Nursing, 2 p.m., School of Nursing and Center for Science

Feb. 7 – Medical Lab Technology, 10 a.m., Tom Bevill Health Science Building

Feb. 11 – Dental Health, 1 p.m., Room 208 Health Science Building

Feb. 24 – Nursing, 2 p.m., School of Nursing and Center for Science

Feb. 28 – Occupational Therapy Assistant, 10 a.m., Room 314 Tom Bevill Health Science Building

March 31 – Nursing, 2 p.m., School of Nursing and Center for Science

April 21 – Nursing, 2 p.m., School of Nursing and Center for Science

May 8 – Dental Health, 1 p.m., Room 208 Health Science Building

Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene

The Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs will hold information sessions on Feb. 11 and May 8. Both meetings will be held at 1 p.m. in room 208 of the Health Science Building.

The Dental Assistant program offers both certificate and degree options that can take three to four semesters to complete, respectively. The Dental Hygiene offers an associate degree which can be completed in six semesters, including one semester of pre-requisites.

Applications for both programs will be accepted from March 1 to June 1. Minimum requirements to apply to each program are as follows:

  • Dental Assisting requires a GPA of at least 2.3 and a minimum ACT of 16
  • Dental Hygiene requires a GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT of 18; pre-requisite courses should be completed before applying

Medical Laboratory Technology

The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program will hold an information session on Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. in room 517 of the Tom Bevill Health Science Building.

The Medical Laboratory Technology program offers an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and a short-term certificate in Medical Laboratory Assistant. The degree option can be completed in five semesters, including two semesters of pre-requisite courses. The short-term certificate can be completed by taking three classes in two semesters.

Applications for both will be accepted from March 1 to June 1. Minimum requirements to apply to each program are as follows:

  • Medical Laboratory Technician requires a 2.5 GPA and a minimum ACT of 18; pre-requisite courses should be completed before applying
  • Medical Lab Assistant requires a 2.0 GPA, an ACCUPLACER or ACT is required, but no minimum score required

Nursing

Wallace State Nursing offers information sessions each month, with its next two session planned for Jan. 27 and Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.. The program accepts new students each fall and spring, with pathways for both Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing. For Fall 2025 the program will accept applications for the traditional Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) option, which includes day and evening classes at the main campus as well as classes in Oneonta; joint enrollment options with UAB and Athens State; and the mobility option.

Applications will be accepted March 1 through May 15. Minimum requirements to apply to each are as follows:

  • Traditional ADN/PN and Mobility options for Nursing, including evening and Oneonta classes, require a minimum ACT of 18 to apply, a minimum GPA of 2.0 at native institution or 2.0 cumulative at institution from which the student is transferring and 2.5 GPA for nursing required academic courses. A minimum GPA of 2.5 high school cumulative from high school is required for students without prior college courses (GED will be used if applicable).
  • The Joint Enrollment and Joint Enrollment Mobility options require a minimum ACT of 20, a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA on all college work as well as a 2.5 GPA on nursing required academic core courses. All academic courses must be completed before the start of the program. Joint Enrollment and Joint Enrollment Mobility students must be admitted to both WSCC and the university partner.

Occupational Therapy Assistant

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program will hold an information session on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. in room 314 of the Tom Bevill Health Science Building.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant program offers and associate degree that can be completed in five semesters, including two semesters of prerequisite courses.

Applications will be accepted from March 1 to June 1. Minimum requirements to apply are as follows:

  • Occupational Therapy Assistant requires a GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT of 19; pre-requisite courses should be completed before applying
