Volleyball Roundup: Lady Lions Make Strong Showing at E2 Sports Raider Classic Tournament

Hanceville, AL — The Wallace State Volleyball team delivered strong performances at the E2 Sports Raider Classic Tournament hosted by Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn. Despite a tough battle in one match, the team ended the tournament with three victories.  

Wallace State vs. Roane State Community College on Aug. 22 (3 – 1) 
Freshman Kailey Dickerson of Wellington dominated with 27 kills and 67 total attacks, showing exceptional offensive prowess. Freshman Amanda Monge of Davenport, Fla. added seven kills and 16 digs, contributing significantly to the team's defensive efforts. Sophomore Valerie Rodriguez of Kissimmee, Fla. excelled in defense with 19 digs, while freshman Ali Price of Rainsville provided steady playmaking with 16 assists. Freshman Rachel Mecklenburg of Madison was a key performer, with seven kills, 19 assists and two block assists, solidifying the team's defensive and offensive strategies. Freshman Molly Shiflett of Warrior also made an impact with four digs. 

Wallace State vs. Southwest Virginia Community College on Aug. 23 (3 – 0) 
Dickerson continued her strong performance with 16 kills and 45 total attacks. Rodriguez stood out with 21 digs and six service aces, showcasing her defensive and serving skills. Mecklenburg added three kills and 22 assists, demonstrating her versatility. Sophomore Chloe Jackson of Athens and Shiflett contributed with six and five kills, respectively. Freshman Amelia Fowler of Sardis City made a brief but effective appearance, tallying four digs in one set. 

Wallace State vs. Southern Union Community College on Aug. 23 (2 – 3)  
In a hard-fought match, Dickerson delivered an exceptional performance with 29 kills and 95 total attacks, underscoring her role as a key offensive player. Mecklenburg also had a standout game with 14 kills, 34 assists and 16 digs. Rodriguez contributed 28 digs, demonstrating her defensive tenacity. Monge added six kills and 16 digs, while freshman Abby McDonald of Cullman secured seven digs, helping the team in a close match that ended in a narrow loss. 

Wallace State vs. Bevill State Community College on Aug. 24 (3 – 1)  
Dickerson continued her impressive run with 11 kills and 60 total attacks. Monge matched her effort with 11 kills and 13 digs. Rodriguez provided strong defensive support with 18 digs. Mecklenburg contributed with 10 kills and 17 assists, while Jackson added six kills and 10 digs. Freshman Kaylee Roman of Deltona, Fla. also made her presence felt with four kills and two assists. Price contributed 21 assists and two service aces, while McDonald added seven digs to her total. 

Wallace State vs. Pellissippi State Community College on Aug. 27 (3 – 1) 
Following the E2 Sports Raider Classic Tournament, the Lady Lions clutched a victory against Pellissippi State Community College on Aug. 27 in Knoxville, Tenn. Dickerson led the Lions with 12 kills on 37 total attack attempts, adding 10 digs to her performance. Shiflett contributed eight kills on 14 attempts, while Jackson added nine kills on 18 attempts, both players also recording four digs each. Monge tallied four kills and 11 total attack attempts, with four digs, and Rodriguez added 14 digs to her defensive effort, alongside one kill and one assist. Mecklenburg set the pace for the team with 28 assists and chipped in with 1 kill. 

The Lady Lions will next face Cleveland State Community College on Aug. 29 in Cleveland, Tenn. at 6:30 p.m. EST. After this match, the team will compete in the Chattanooga State Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. with the following schedule: 

• Aug. 30: vs. Pasco–Hernando State College at 2 p.m. EST 

• Aug. 30: vs. Itawamba Community College at 4 p.m. EST 

• Aug. 31: vs. John A. Logan College at 9 a.m. EST 

• Aug. 31: vs. Chattanooga State Community College at 1 p.m. EST 

The Lady Lions' first home matches at Traditions Bank Arena in Tom Drake Coliseum will be on Sep. 6 against Northeast Mississippi Community College at 1 p.m. and Itawamba Community College at 5 p.m. during the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Tournament hosted by Wallace State.
