Annual Jazz Band Dance set for April 19

Dancers ht the floor at the 2023 Big Band Dance hosted by the Wallace State Jazz Band at the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. The 2024 Big Band Dance will be held Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m.

Hanceville, AL — The Wallace State Jazz Band will present its annual Big Band Dance on Friday, April 19.

“The Big Band Dance has become a tradition for some over the years,” said Ricky Burks, chair of the Wallace Fine and Performing Arts program and director of the Jazz Band. “We welcome everyone to attend and enjoy classic big band dance tunes made famous by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Ray Anthony and more. Don’t worry if you don’t dance, you can come and just enjoy the music.”

The Big Band Dance will be held at 7 p.m. in the atrium of the Burrow Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Suggested admission to the event is a $10 donation.

Other upcoming Fine and Performing Arts for the spring semester include:

  • Solo Recital, Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m., Burrow Center Recital Hall

  • Spring Under the Stars, Thursday April 25 at 6:30 p.m., the Burrow Center

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band is one of several ensembles in the Fine and Performing Arts program. Instrumental ensembles also include the Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet and Brass Ensemble.

Vocal ensembles include the Concert Choir, Wallace State Singers and Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Other offerings include Wallace State Dance’s Allegro Dance Theatre, Pride Line dance team and Wallace State Theatre.

Registration for the Summer and Fall semesters is underway. Summer classes begin May 22 and fall classes begin Aug. 19.
