Wallace State Softball Win 1-0 Over Shelton State
Hanceville, AL — In a tense defensive showdown, Wallace State Community College's softball team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Shelton State on April 4, 2024 at the Shelton State Softball Complex in Tuscaloosa.
The game saw impressive pitching performances from both sides, with Lily Boswell leading the Wallace State Lions to the win. Boswell delivered an effective performance, allowing only three hits over six innings while tallying three strikeouts. Emily Simon closed out the game, maintaining Wallace State's shutout with a scoreless seventh inning.
Offensively, Wallace State's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tessa Word delivered the crucial RBI, driving in Haley Hollyhand, who had reached third base earlier in the inning. Hollyhand's triple proved to be the decisive play of the game.
Despite a low number of runs, both teams showcased their defensive prowess. Wallace State's infield, anchored by Jessie Taylor at second base and Bayleigh Rouse at third, effectively shut down Shelton State's offense, holding them scoreless throughout the game.
