Wallace State Softball Beats Southern Union 9-4 in Game 1 of Conference Doubleheader
Hanceville, AL — On March 16, 2024, the Wallace State softball team secured a commanding 9-4 victory over Southern Union Community College in the first game of a conference doubleheader at the Bobby McCracken Softball Stadium.
The Wallace State Lions displayed their prowess early on, capitalizing on opportunities to take control of the game. Laura Leigh Wheeler's powerful swing sent the ball soaring over the fence, notching a home run and setting the tone for her team. Wheeler's performance didn't stop there, as she also contributed two RBIs.
Adding to Wallace State's offensive prowess was Bayleigh Rouse, whose aggressive play at third base earned her a home run and an RBI. Rouse's contribution was pivotal in widening the gap between the two teams.
Jadyn Foster emerged as another key player for Wallace State, showcasing her batting skills with a remarkable four hits, including two doubles. Foster's consistency at the plate proved crucial in driving her teammates home and solidifying the Lions' lead.
On the defensive end, pitcher Amelia Sherrill exhibited composure and skill, holding off Southern Union's attempts to rally. Despite facing pressure from the opposing team, Sherrill delivered a solid performance, allowing only four runs while striking out three batters.
