Wallace State Softball Starts Strong with 6-1 Win in Doubleheader Opener

Hanceville, AL – On March 14, 2024, the Wallace State softball team kicked off a conference doubleheader against Southern Union Community College with a 6-1 victory at the Lady Bison Softball Stadium.

The Wallace State offense wasted no time, piling up four runs in the opening inning. Brandy Phillips, Laura Leigh Wheeler and Jessie Taylor spearheaded the offensive charge, each contributing hits and RBIs to fuel the team's early lead.

Phillips showcased her speed on the basepaths, swiping two bases while also going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Wheeler's performance was highlighted by a double, driving in two runs for Wallace State. Taylor's presence at the plate was equally effective, as she tallied two hits and helped manufacture runs for the team.

Jadyn Foster and Tessa Word also made significant contributions to Wallace State's offense. Foster delivered a crucial RBI hit, while Word drove in two runs to extend her team's lead.

On the defensive side, pitcher Emily Simon delivered a masterful performance, holding Southern Union to just one run on three hits. Simon showcased her command on the mound, striking out seven batters and issuing only two walks.
