Williams, Winfrey and Grant recognized with ACCC postseason awards

Wallace State athletes Jimmie Williams, Jaden Winfrey and Emariah Grant were each recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference with postseason awards announced this week for Division I.

Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College basketball players Jimmie Williams, Jaden Winfrey and Emariah Grant were each recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference with postseason awards announced this week for Division I. Postseason awards are voted on by ACCC coaches.

Williams, a freshman guard from Cleveland, Ohio, was named to the men’s First Team, while Lady Lions sophomore guards Winfrey, of Cullman, and Grant, of Huntsville, were named to the women’s First Team.

Williams, who was named tournament MVP in the Lions win over Bishop State in the ACCC Division I Championship, scored 752 points for the season, averaging 22.8 points per game, leading all players in the conference. He scored 48 points alone in the opening game of the ACCC tournament, a modern record for WSCC for points scored in a single game.

Williams and the Lions will head to Hutchinson, Kan., to compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Men's Basketball Championship, March 24-30 at Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Jaden WinfreyWinfrey scored 483 points for the season averaging 16.1 points per game, with her highest scoring game coming during a Dec. 14 match-up against Snead State, when she scored 33 points. Her points per game average placed her third in the conference. She was also third in the conference in field goal percentage, with a 50.4 average.

Grant, who was named to the ACCC Division I All-Tournament team along with Nylaa Fuller, a freshman guard from Huntsville, followed Winfrey on the leaderboard in points per game. She totaled 458 points for the season, with an average of 15.3 to come in at fourth in the conference in points per game. Her highest scoring game was 31 on Jan. 11 against Calhoun Community College. She ranked second in the conference in assists, with 4.6 per game.
