Williams scores 48 in opener of ACCC Tournament

Hanceville, AL — Freshman guard Jimmie Williams put in a season-high 48 points to lead the Wallace State Community College men’s basketball team to an 84-76 win over Lawson State in the opening round of the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) men’s basketball tournament.

Williams, of Cleveland, Ohio, scored 22 points in the first half and 26 in the second half, while also pulling down eight rebounds, two assists and four steals in the game.

The Lions were down by 10 points at 42-32 when the teams went to the locker room at halftime. But Wallace State outscored the Cougars 52-34 in the second half for the win.

Sophomore center PJ Eason contributed eight points to the Lions victory, as well as six rebounds and four blocks. Freshman guard Kami Young put in seven points, four rebounds and two assists. Freshman guard Jalen Carruth added six points, five rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Kelvin Turner turned in four points. From the bench, freshman guard Kendarius Anderson netted five points, sophomore guard Jalen Anglin four and freshman guard Antonio Cochran two.
