Wallace State edges out Southern Union 56-55
Hanceville, AL — Wallace State overcame a 10-point deficit at the half against Southern Union State Community College to bring home a narrow one-point victory over the Bisons.
From the tip-off, both teams showcased their skills, but it was Wallace State who struck first, led by the determined efforts of PJ Eason, Jimmie Williams, Authur Johnson, Kendarius Anderson, and Jalen Anglin.
Southern Union, however, refused to back down, matching Wallace State basket for basket in a display of sheer determination.
Wallace State managed to narrow the gap, thanks to stellar performances from their key players, guards Williams and Anglin, whose clutch shots ignited hope in their team's supporters.
It all came down to the final moments. In a heart-stopping sequence, Wallace State managed to secure a slim lead, capitalizing on crucial free throws and defensive stops to win the game 56-55.
Williams, of Cleveland, Ohio, led the Lions in scoring with 17 points. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double, along with five assists and two steals. Anglin, of Jackson, Tenn., brought in 14 points. Eason, of Dadeville, pulled down 13 rebounds and scored nine points. Johnson, of Carrollton, Ga., and Anderson of Tuscumbia each scored three points. From the bench, freshman guards Jalen Carruth of Atlanta contributed 6 points and Antonio Cochran of Columbus, Ga., 4.
The win puts the Lions up to 19-3 for the season.
