Wallace State defeats Coastal Alabama – South 61-56
Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College men’s basketball found themselves in a neck-and-neck battle at home against Coastal Alabama - South.
Coastal Alabama - South came out strong, however, Wallace State's defense held firm, led by sophomore center PJ Eason of Dadeville and sophomore guard Jalen Anglin of Jackson, Tenn., who contested every shot and fought for every rebound.
As the first half progressed, Coastal Alabama - South managed to build a slim lead, fueled by their sharpshooting and aggressive defense. But Wallace State refused to back down. Freshman guards Jimmie Williams of Cleveland, Ohio and Authur Johnson of Carrollton, Ga., stepped up, knocking down crucial three-pointers and sinking free throws to keep their team within striking distance.
The halftime buzzer sounded with Coastal Alabama - South holding a narrow two-point lead, but Wallace State turned the tide in the second half.
Anglin caught fire, pouring in points from all over the court, while Eason dominated the boards, grabbing rebounds and converting second-chance opportunities.
In the end, Wallace State secured a hard-fought 61-56 win over Coastal Alabama - South.
Anglin led the Lions with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Williams followed with 18 points. Johnson netted 12 points Eason had nine points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Kendarius Anderson of Tuscumbia brought in two points and three rebounds.
The win puts the Lions up to 17-3 for the season.
