WSCC Golf finishes second at Dan York Memorial Golf Tournament
Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College’s men’s golf team came close but finished 7 strokes behind East Florida State to take second place at the Dan York Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by WSCC at Cross Creek Golf Course.
“The team honestly just didn’t have their best performance this week, but to finish second out of 14 teams and just 7 strokes behind the fifth ranked team in the country still isn’t a bad showing,” said Coach Sylas Elliott. “I’m very proud of this group for their work ethic and the depth that we have through our roster. This is going to be a very successful year just like last year and we are in hope of adding more wins and championship trophies to our record.”
East Florida State finished at -6 under par, while the Lions came in at 1 over par. Rounding out the top five were Central Alabama Community College (+7), Jefferson State Community College (+26) and Enterprise State Community College (+27).
Wallace State Community College golfer Joseph Vinyard earned All Tournament honors at the Dan York Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Wallace State Sept. 11-12.
For the Lions, sophomore Joseph Vinyard finished tied in second place overall, earning an All-Tournament award. Vinyard, from Gardendale, finished strong, scoring -6 under par on the final round of play, following up on a -4 during round two. But that wasn’t enough to recover from a difficult start in round one, where he finished at 5 over par.
Cole Lindeman, a freshman from Priceville, tied at 14 with +1. Keith Hunter, a sophomore from Ontario, Canada, and freshman Dillan Wade from Vestavia Hills, both tied at 16 with +4. Sophomore Leam Meaden of Nottingham, UK finished 15th with +5.
The team will next play at the Southeast District Preview in Union Grove on Sept. 26-26.
The women’s golf team begins their fall season on Sept. 18 in Athens.
