Hanceville, AL — Wallace State Community College women's basketball advanced to the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Championship Final Thursday after defeating Lawson State in the semifinals 89-65. They will face their conference rival, Shelton State, on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Event Center on the campus of Alabama A&M in Huntsville. The Lions are 24-6 on the season and 15-4 in conference play, winning their last seven games. They average 70 points per game on the season while holding their opponents to 55 points.

"I'm incredibly proud of our team." said Wallace State Women's Basketball Head Coach, Jessica McBrayer. "Winning a championship has been our goal since we moved on campus in July and to be in the position to achieve that goal speaks volumes to our team's commitment."

The Lions are led by five sophomores who have a combined 886 points on the season.

"Our sophomores have been unbelievable as far as setting the tone of who we are and how we do things. We have worked incredibly hard to create a culture of "team lead" and these girls absolutely have bought into it," said McBrayer.

Wallace State has faced Shelton State twice this season, losing both games. If the Lions can defeat Shelton State on Friday, it would be the Bucs first conference loss in over 140 games. McBrayer is fully aware of the battle ahead of her team.

"Shelton is obviously a well-coached, talented team. We expect a 40-minute battle, but we believe in our plan, we believe who we are, and we believe a championship is coming home with us this weekend."
