Workforce Training Courses
Continuing Education helps professionals in numerous fields gain or improve skills that complement their current roles in the workplace. Some professions require regular continuing education credits to stay current with job requirements. Course lengths range from a few hours to multi-week workshops and seminars. Training provided through Continuing Education includes but is not limited to training in Environmental, Health, and Safety, Microsoft Office products, leadership skills, and communication in the workplace.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. This
certification is accepted by major healthcare industry organizations and provides
basic knowledge of techniques and skills to revive patients in distress. The course
provides an understanding of CPR and choking relief techniques for adults, children,
or infants, and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device.
Time: Classes are offered on Saturday mornings and lasts 4 hours.
Tuition: $95
Phlebotomy
Individuals may become trained as a phlebotomist in just 9 weeks. Phlebotomists,
or phlebotomy technicians, draw blood from patients and take the blood specimens to
the laboratory to prepare for testing. They are important members of the clinical
laboratory team. Our program includes instructional training, along with hands-on
training. Upon successful completion of coursework and clinical training, students
will be eligible to sit for the state certification exam.
Time: Classes meet twice a week in the evenings. Classes are 3 hours and lasts 9 weeks.
Tuition: $900
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
A course designed for healthcare providers who act in participation or directing the
resuscitation of patients, in or outside of the hospital setting. ACLS stresses the
importance of basic life support (CPR) for patient survival as well as advanced interventions,
multiple-provider scenarios, and communication to use during resuscitation.
Time: Classes meet twice a week. Classes are 8 hours and last 1 week.

Medication Assistant (MAC)
Specialize in administering medication to people who need assistance receiving medications,
such as the elderly, disabled or those in treatment facilities. A MAC is typically
a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who works
in a long-term care or mental health facility under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Before enrolling in this training, you should research the company for whom you want
to work to see if they do require their MAC to be a CNA or CMA.
Time & Course Content: The program consists of three weeks of classroom and lab (60 hours total) and two weeks of clinical rotation (40 hours). The classroom component is offered in-person or online, but students must come to campus for the orientation and three days of lab instruction. Classes will be held from 8 AM until 4 PM each day. Clinicals will generally be 6:30 AM until 3 PM. Upon successful completion of instruction, lab and clinical components, the participant’s name will be submitted to the Alabama Board of Nursing for testing for the national certification examination (MACE). A maximum of 24 students will be accepted into the program.
Prerequisites: Proof of insurance, immunizations, physical, background check, CPR certification.
Tuition: $900. Other expenses include $100 certification exam fee and cost for scrubs.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Learn about infection control, taking vital signs, and delivering personal care.
Topics may include communication skills and patients’ rights. Upon successful completion
of coursework, students will be eligible to sit for the state certification exam.
Time: Classes meet twice a week in the evenings. Classes are 3 hours and lasts 10 weeks.
Tuition: $900 plus $15 insurance fee (includes textbook and exam fee).
ServSafe
An educational program developed by the National Restaurant Association to educate
food service workers about food safety. However, it isn’t just for members of the
NRA – anyone can become ServSafe certified through a two-step process: first take
the preparatory classes, then pass the exam. Many state, county, and city governments
now require food service employees to be ServSafe certified.
Time: A 1 day or 3 evening option is available while exam sessions are scheduled in the
evening.
Tuition: $185 (1-day); $200 (3-day); $115 (Exam)
OSHA 10
The OSHA Outreach Training Program for General Industry provides training for entry-level
workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of
safety and health hazards in workplaces in general industry. The program also provides
information regarding workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file
a complaint. Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers are more knowledgeable
about workplace hazards and their rights. Students who successfully complete the CareerSafe
OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course receive an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry wallet
card from the OSHA Training Institute (OTI).
Time: Classes are offered on Saturday mornings and lasts 5 hours for 2 weeks.
Tuition: $25
Forklift Operator
This 4-hour course will provide participants with the training needed for more job
opportunities in logistics, shipping and receiving, transportation, and a variety
of businesses and industries that rely on forklift operators to move freight.
Time: Classes are offered on Monday evenings and lasts 4 hours. (12 hours)
Tuition: $175 per participant
Certified Production Technician
The purpose of the Certified Production Technician (CPT) certification program is
to recognize through certification, individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core
competencies of advanced manufacturing production at the front-line (entry-level to
front-line supervisor) through successful completion of the certification assessments.
The goal of the CPT certification program is to raise the level of performance of
production technicians, both, to assist the individuals in finding higher-wage jobs
and to help employers ensure their workforce increases the company’s productivity
and competitiveness. The CPT program consists of four required individual certificate
assessments: Safety, Quality Practices & Measurement, Manufacturing Processes
& Production, Maintenance Awareness.
Course Content: The CPT 4.0 program consists of four individual certificate assessments: Safety (30 hours), Quality Practices & Measurement (36 hours), Manufacturing Processes & Production (38 hours), Maintenance Awareness (38 hours). *Candidates must earn the four certificates to receive the Full CPT 4.0 certification.
Time: 140-160 hrs
Tuition: $1200
Certified Logistics Technician
The purpose of the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification program is to
recognize through certification, individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies
of material handling at the front-line (entry-level to front-line supervisor) through
successful completion of certification assessments. The goal of the CLT certification
program is to raise the level of performance of logistics technicians, both, to assist
the individuals in finding higher-wage jobs and to help employers ensure their workforce
increases the company’s productivity and competitiveness.
The CLT program consists of two parts:
Foundational-Level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) Certificate (35 hours)
Mid-Level Technical CLT Certification (CLT) (35 hours)
*Before sitting for the CLT assessment, candidates must have a CLA Certificate.
Time: 70-80 hrs
Tuition: $900

Commercial Driver's License
This 160-hour program prepares individuals to sit for the commercial driver’s license
(CDL) exam. Enter a rewarding career in the trucking industry where qualified drivers
and skilled employees are in high demand.
Time: Classes meet four times a week. Classes are 5 hours and last 4 to 6 weeks.
Tuition: $3500
